Classical Take on a New Style

Anyone who has spent a day at their local jeweler knows that the round brilliant cut is one of the most popular and studied types of gemstone cut in the world, and for no uncertain reason.  As light behaves differently in every different situation, the brilliant round cut is made to put order where there never was before.  It directs the chaotic light, which in nature bounces around without care, and makes it dazzle in the eye of the beholder until there isn’t a drop of light left in the room.

The Diamond

For nearly a century now mathematicians and gemologists alike have attempted to create the perfect gemstone and diamond cut, one that will save the rough stone and at the same time provide the absolute best sparkle possible.  Unfortunately, one goal was given up for the other, and that is how the brilliant round cut was made.  Nearly half of a rough stone will go to waste in making a perfectly cut brilliant round diamond, and that is a lot of diamond to waste for one carat stones and above.  This sacrifice isn’t for nothing, though, as the end product is a diamond that is more advanced and beautiful than any other in terms of raw sparkle and shine.  In the end, the only one thing that can hold a diamond back from its newfound beauty with the round cut is normally not even given a second thought: the setting.

The Setting

The one last thing to take care of once a stone has been cut and polished is the setting.  The setting can be a simple stud design, a more advanced diamond cluster earring design, or one of our favorites, the hanging leverback design.  The leverback design allows for the diamond to hang on its own slightly below the ear, rather than directly on the ear.  This way, light can get through the back of the diamond as well as through the sides.  More light coming through the back means more light coming through the front, and that is exactly what this jewelry is made for.
