Diamonds Working Together

When you buy a standard pair of diamond stud earrings, there is only one main stone that adds true sparkle and shine to the overall piece, and sometimes that just isn’t enough.  When one stone may have a set number of facets, two stones already double the faceting while four or more make the same identical setting look completely different.  Each separate facet directs light on its own towards the observer making the increase in sparkle and shine nearly exponential as more and more stones are used.

A Tour of the Deep Earth
Deep in the crust of the Earth, billions of carats of diamonds or more are sitting in waiting for a group of miners to excavate them from their rocky prisons.  When finally mined, the stone still doesn’t have much sparkle or shine considering all of the inclusions visible on the outside and the odd shape it might be found in.  After a strong tumbling to cut off any leftover matrix which covers the hidden treasure underneath, something needs to be done to the rough stone to make sure the absolute best end product is made.

Cutting a Rough Stone
Once the rough diamond is mapped out and all the internal inclusions are taken note of, the gemologist is ready to cut the stone.  Maximizing high clarity portions of the stone is hard while still trying to maintain the highest amount of sparkle through faceting and cut quality.  The hidden secret is to make sure all the faceting directs light through the top to sparkle out the front for any spectators who want a glance.  Double the stones and you get twice the facets, doubling the sheen, the glitz, and the gloss that everyone loves.
